That's some damn fine work right there. Can you tell me (us) how you did the crops?

Thanks! The first thing you do is send Craig at Bluford Shops all of your money and purchase lots and lots of his styrene corn -

I don't much care for the stock green color of the "summer" corn, so I went with tan "autumn" corn (hit with a layer of green spray paint and then flat finish). The paint spray has the added benefit of giving the individual plants slight variations in color, which I think looks more realistic. Once all the corn rows are glued in place, sprinkle on a layer of Woodland Scenics "soil" turf to hide the plastic bases. For the tassles, I mixed up a brew of WS "yellow ochre" and "burnt umber" pigments (about 2/3's yellow and 1/3 umber, then diluted by about 50% with water). To apply, simply dip a small, moistened sponge into the pigment and then dab it around on top of the corn.

It's not much work at all (although it can get to be quite expensive if you want stupidly huge fields like I opted for) -

Wednesday is a good time to post the weekend's progress, right?

My big project this week was getting these shelves built. They're not nearly as pretty as I would've liked but I didn't want to have to go get any new materials. They're functional and maybe someday I'll pretty them up.

They're the culmination of a multi-step workbench improvement project that included getting a new TV, figuring out how to wall mount it in the corner, and then building them. They save me having to walk down to the basement where I used to store all the paint and are a HUGE improvement to my modeling workflow.

I also did a lot of non-photo worthy stuff to move some locomotive projects forward. This is the best representation though, since I put DCC in the lead GP35 here.
