Wery interesting that the French call that letter a doo-bluh-vay, which sounds like a double Vee to me.

My guess for the chrome trim is Molotow chrome pens. There is nothing else like these things.

Cool , first I heard of these , thanks .

These are fairly popular for model car detailing, and discused in those forums.  Here is one of such discussions:

Those photos gave me chills. They reminded me of the scariest part of any scenery work: after you got everything looking great you then make it look ike hell by pouring glue all over it.

However, it also reminded me of one of the best feelings in model railroading: coming into the layout room the day after doing that and seeing everything looking great.

You did good homeboy.

I did screw up some sections.  This is the first time I've used real rock (Scenic Express).  Think the WS sucks up some of the glue/water/alcohol mixture, so I think I used too much glue or my mix was too high.  Had a few areas that top was like chewing gum, some white glue still up on top, some areas the glue dried and it looked like a piss poor attempt of a puddle.  Took up all these areas, mostly between tracks and have a fan running on low now to help drying process.  I'm going to get some of that powder resin glue that mixes in with ballast and try that out as well.

Bill:  It's a "double vee", "doble vay" in Spanish as well.

If you look at old buildings, or monuments, or other carved stone, "U" and "V" used to be interchangeable.  I've seen a lot of old courthouses carved "SOMETHING COVNTRY".

SAH:  Thanks for mentioning K4 Decals.  I just got done going through their offerings, and found a few sets I could use.  I've been looking for an NdeM boxcar suitable for the 60s/early 70s, and they have two sets.  Plus I guess I'll have to buy a V&O set, "just 'cause".

Is the V&O the only model railroad with its own historical society?

We've had the Molotow chrome pens in our shop for a while. They also make paint masking pens and some super fine black markers for panel lining and other details.

The sharpie is not chrome though. This stuff is truly mirror chrome when it is dry. Hope this picture shows it.

Yes, Molotow Chrome, Alsa ChromeFX and Alclad II chrome are truly chrome-like finishes (when applied over smooth surface).

Alsa ChromeFX is quite durable, but expensive.  Molotow and Alclad II are cheaper and easier to deal with, but get dulled when the surface is handled, but perfect for chrome on N scale vehicles which are not exposed to much handling.
