So, there is a prototype for my trackwork, after all.

See also "Milwaukee Road, 1970s".

This weekends progress. First round of decals

Thanks,
Wolf

Looks awesome, Wolf! :o

On the unit in the background, how did you do the barrel light and horizontal headlight with numberboard box?

Also, I notice you managed to remove the waist taper on the 4700, How did you accomplish that?

Thank you, very much!!

For the SW900 Number board and horizontal light - I used evergreen strip - I approximated the the size. Filed the taper on each side and and added Detail Associates dual sealed beam lights. The barrel lights are from Miniatures by Eric.

To straighten the hood on the TR6B: The unit is a Frankenstein. The frame and front hood (Engine compartment) are from from Lifelike. The rear part is Con-Cor. I split both to get the proper width. The Lifelike hood has triangular wedges. For the Con-Cor piece I spliced in Evergreen strips to widen it. Then putty to smooth it out. All of this is on a Kato NW2 mechanism.
In fact the SW900 and SW8 are also on Kato mechanisms.

Thank you, Otto, for the kind words - very humbling.
Can't beat Tiger -or- Zebra stripes!!

Best regards,
Wolf

Some N scale vehicles for a friend's layout:

What's your secret for the very fine chrome trim?

I dove head first into ballasting Center St tonight.  Finished moving some around, new colors in spots, building layers and mixed up the glue.  This is my first time using real rock, I'm hoping I didn't use too much glue.  I'm guessing the Woodland Scenic crushed walnut soaks some in.  Posed some GP units on the power track before doing so.  2625 arrived yesterday from Massachusetts, decoder already installed (sweet).  I marked off where the engine house will sit and bent a piece of square styrene rod to act as a partial turntable foundation.

We'll see how this turns out in the morning.  Hope I didn't hit my head by diving in the shallow end of the pool...

Those photos gave me chills. They reminded me of the scariest part of any scenery work: after you got everything looking great you then make it look ike hell by pouring glue all over it.

However, it also reminded me of one of the best feelings in model railroading: coming into the layout room the day after doing that and seeing everything looking great.

You did good homeboy.

My guess for the chrome trim is Molotow chrome pens. There is nothing else like these things.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I see it the same way (as in Molotov cocktail).  That is how it is pronounced in Polish ("w" is pronounced like English "v").  Probably similar in German (this is German product).
