Finally completed the third CSX GP39-2.I've been taking stock Atlas models and patching them for CSX.This is what I was after. I saved this one for last because I knew it would be the trickiest.http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/GP39-2/4303glf.jpgBasic procedure was to do a thin coating of white to age the stock paint. Then paint over the G herald with paint closer to stock. I knew I would need to make a stencil.I went into this thinking it did not need to be perfect. Looking at these Guilford GP39-2s showed that what CSX employees did was pretty haphazard.I measured the G with my caliper. Microscale decals were not the same size as the Atlas model. So I photographed the model. Imported into Corel Draw and then made the G the same size as the model. The red line was my 11.23 mm reference line. Printed out the page- as shown here.
I don’t model N scale anymore, but I think I’ve posted enough in the past to warrant a guest-post of my HO work....
Added "glass' lens to my Pyle headlight using a pre-wired nano-LED and UV resin. I painted the inside of the light with chrome silver paint. The light is too bright for my camera, but to the naked eye the effect is very realistic.
These look great Ron! Next time (if there is a next time) ask me for the pertinent art, could have spared you some of the extra work.
I’ve been working on three more SW1s to go with the one I had done previously. These four units represent the first group to receive MU capabilities that were assigned to Milwaukee’s Austin, MN - Lacrosse, WI line. The “donkeys” were used because of the light bridges on the line.I also tried some outdoor photography for the first time.Jim
Jim I'm always in awe of your photos and modeling! If you uses some depth-of-field photo enhancing technique (like Helicon Focus) where the entire photo was in sharp focus, your models could be easily mistaken for full size trains! I would love to see a focus-stacked version of your last photo.
Thank you! These were just taken with my IPhone.I’ve never used focus stacking software. This may be a good reason to give it a try.Jim
