If you could show us a photo I may help you eventually, please include, for what model you're wanting that armature.

Happy easter

Yes, photo would be helpful, but I'm not sure if with his low post-count Karl can do that.  What model is the motor in?
Also, what is the defect? Motors are pretty robust and seldom fail.  It might be repairable.  If it is an ancient Lima, those motors are likely long out of production and it that one is not fixable, a replacement motor might have to be fitted.

Oh Geez!  One of "those" motors.   They are pretty much beyond help, even when they work as well as they possibly can their performance is sub-par.
Those motors were, and are some of the crappiest motors ever used in N scale models.  :(

Looks like in yours, the commutator segments (which are made from a cheap printed circuit board material with thin copper cladding) are worn down to the insulator.

The problem is that it is a non-standard mechanism design with the motor shaft mounted perpendicular to the model's center line (not parallel, like most other models).  If you are doing this for nostalgic reasons, then I can see you truing to fix it, otherwise maybe fit the shell onto some more conventional mechanism.

As you continue to ask around....

most folks call that a "pancake motor."

If you use that term, people will know what you're talking about without a photo.
it was unique!

Peteski, you seem to have some experience with these motors (I don't), so I'll ask how hard it would be to make another commutator disk out of a disk of circuit board material and attach that back to the shaft?

Can you show photos of the chassis and the trucks?  This looks like a British prototype engine.

That would also be my next suggestion. Newer models run 1000% better than the old pancake-motored single truck-powered loco with dubious front-truck electrical pickup loco.

If you go out on 'that auction site' and search for "Lima N Scale" or "AHM N Scale", you're likely to find either a similar locomotive or the Lima FP45, which I 'think' has the very same drive once you take the truck sideframes off (separate part).

People are unbelievably fuzzy on listing these, I've never seen one listed properly as what it actually is so you have to wade through all the listings.   Used, you'd be nuts to pay much more than $30, and then you could resell the shell as it's not half bad.

I had four of these at one time, repowered three, sold one.
The FP45 chassis is shown here:  http://www.spookshow.net/loco/limafp45.html

May be a chicken and egg thing I suspect the FP45 drive was adapted from yours as the trucks were WAY oversize on the FP45 model.

I also noted that the auction site has a guy with a lot of Lima parts out there, may get lucky.

But yeah, if I had one that I actually wanted to RUN, rather than collect and say 'look, it still moves!', I'd either get another model or completely repower under the shell with a different chassis that fits a rather big, open shell like that.   The Lima drives were among the very worst.

Hey, found a motor.  Search for this:  "P-605-027 " which is the Lima part number

Would that be the same motor in the Lima FP45?  I have one, and it works (as well as it ever did, which is not very well).  I don't plan to retain the locomotive, so if you're interested, and it's the right fit, you're welcome to it.

I'll try to take a photo of the drive this evening and give it another test drive to make sure I'm not misleading you...

By the way.   While we're on the subject of this motor....

I think they are very susceptible to (some) pulse throttles- especially older ones.  And can thus contribute to over heat the motor.
(you said you're got hot).
