Sorry you had to redo your hard work, but I like that three-blade fan much better than the four-blade version.  Kudos!

So it was one of those "happy accidents", rigth?  Or was it?  Maybe DKS just wanted to remake the mechanism, and the accident "just happened"?  :D :trollface:

Regardless (or is is irregardless  :) ), the outcome is superb. Nothing less would have been expected.   I love it!  Can't wait for another video (with a closeup of the new geared mechanism).

It was a genuine accident. But I'm not about to pass up an opportunity to make improvements. Here's the new and improved desk fan in action.

I also spent the first half of the week working on a fireworks display unit. Came out pretty well, but I'm not sure I like it enough to make more--it'll take at least five units to make a halfway-decent "show," and it took 2 days to assemble one. Threading 70 warm white 0201 LEDs into a piece of styrene smaller than a business card, then making 140 connections to ten "falling star" holiday lighting effects chips is a Royal PITA. Then I'd have to build a device to control the five units to create a "show." We'll see--this one's not on the official list yet.

I don't know.  Four blades seems more prototypical.  I guess Ed's Law applies to household appliances, as well...

I move we change the term “rivet counter” to “fan blade counter” .
The number of blades makes a huge difference, especially when spinning  :D
