Never thought of using a Berkshire as a unit of measure.  Reminds me of "Smoots" (the Harvard Bridge between Boston and Cambridge is 364.4 Smoots long).  Thanks!

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Good find John!

Here's a good drawing of an 800 ton (two tracks under) version: http://hinton.cohs.org/dwg/West_Elevation_Hinton_Coal_Dock.pdf

Mark5 -- I found that on the OGuage forum .. the hinton drawing is good for helping with basic dimensions, especially the height

Except the measurement of the engine's height seems to be taken a bit too far forward. The man oiling the rods/bearings appears to be well in front of the tower legs, and the yellow lines are measuring well in front of him. So if that's the "X" you're using, you're under-estimating the size of the tower. You want to (as close as possible) measure the engine where it lines up with the front plane of the tower, since the 3/4 angle means the scale of the engine changes with distance.

It’s difficult to determine the precise location of the apex from this angle. That’s why I suggested using the known dimension (9’-7”) railhead to running board in reply #8. Much easier to intersect straight lines...
(Also, note the height at the cab is less than the stack height quoted. It’s 15’-3.5” to the vent lip, and likely about 15’ to the roof apex).
