Auf Englisch, bitte?

Cut and paste from the internet as I'm too lazy to type.

In color management, an ICC profile is a set of data that characterizes a color input or output device, or a color space, according to standards promulgated by the International Color Consortium (ICC). Profiles describe the color attributes of a particular device or viewing requirement by defining a mapping between the device source or target color space.

Every device that captures or displays color can be profiled. Some manufacturers provide profiles for their products, and there are several products that allow an end-user to generate his or her own color profiles, typically through the use of a tristimulus colorimeter or a spectrophotometer (sometimes called a spectrocolorimeter).

So in other words, it's a filter or "translator" for color.  :)

As an experiment I took my HDR photo and reduced the filesize from 2.3 MB to 0.9 MB before uploading.  And the color still went flat as a pancake.

Ugh.  I give up.

File size has nothing to do with the color change.  This isn't a compression issue.  The gallery software is stripping the color profile out of your picture so your browser can't display it correctly.

I must have misread...I thought someone had suggested that the filesize was so large that the compression software had to reduce the dynamic range of the colors.

So, I ask humbly, is there any way to fix this without having to constantly import these pictures into photo editing software?  And if so, is there a way to articulate it in common English?  Thanks!

Don't use the gallery.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you attach it?

Looks like that keeps the color.

Well then I won't be sharing pictures I guess.  Facebook changes the URLs of photos periodically so I can't rely on a photo being visible for any extended period.

This sucks.  These photos really don't convey what I see in the train room.

Same problem.

I take my photos with an iPhone 8.  I can't possibly be the only one here doing that.  So...what is it that causes the problem?  I use a Mac to upload them to TRW's gallery, but if I do direct attachment it comes straight from my iPhone.

That's curious since my attachment kept the color???

I would suggest that some of this could be the HDR setting on your camera.  Can you try a regular photo from your iPhone?

Maybe better I think?  I’ll have to experiment more.  HDR gives me so much better resolution and focal depth but by the time the Railwire’s compression software is done with it, each photo looks like a finger painting anyway.

No, it’s still flatter and cooler.

I thought you had a website.  Host them there.

I had a Wordpress website for the PRR.  I don't use it anymore.  I've moved my Wordpress instance over for my business, so whatever's still out there is static.  Hosting the photos the old fashioned way on a static page is such an a$$-pain.  We have this great gallery opportunity here but I just can't understand why I'm having problems when I see other photos shared through the gallery that clearly have a fuller dynamic color range.  I cannot possibly be the only iPhone 8 guy here.  No way.
