Question re Micro-Trains #1019 Couplers

Can anyone confirm for me if these couplers (intended for TOFC cars) come with medium length shank (as opposed to short shank)?  I am looking for a medium shank coupler with a smaller box than the #1016.

Thank you,

Tim

They appear to be. I have 1019s body-mounted on all my auto racks and the shank appears to be longer than the 1015.
Do be aware that the 1019s are underslung though.

The 1019 is to 2004 as 1016 is to 1015. The 1019 will fit in a 1016 box, just as the 2004 will fit in a 1015 box.

If you’re looking for the short-length offset-shank coupler, you want the 2004. You can fit it in a 2004 box or a 1015 box, depending upon the mounting height on your model. The 2004 box is approximately 1/16” thinner in height than the 1015 box.

Also, it is possible to mount a 1019 in a 1015 box, but the coupler would have more vertical flex than if in a 1016 box. But it will work as the location of the centering spring on both coupler arms is the same.

@bbussey So can one mount a 1019 in a 2004 box?

It will operate, but won't have as much support for the extended shaft.  It will fit though.  I've used all four coupler variations in numerous coupler box configurations, even using 1016 and 1019 in a 1016 box with a 2015 lid, to allow a coupler to be mounted so that the shaft is immediately under the end of the car when there is room to recess the coupler in and up juxtaposed with the floor bottom face.
