One of the coil cars from my previous post, a NS "Protect II" car. I thought I'd mix this car up a little and add an older corrugated style hood. It was printed on the Photon and will end up being a Conrail hood.

Any chance you could make these corrugated hood for the Atlas/Walthers car? The worst part of that car is the hoods and this would fix it.

Nice job on that BL-2.  You do decidedly need the dual headlights.

These questions come from mere curiosity:

1.  Why no steam generator?

2.  Why did you go so far back with the silver on the #2 end?

These are not criticisms, just pure curiosity.

I suppose that question Number One springs from my familiarity with the SP in the SF Bay Area.  Had the SP run BL-2s, and, run them up there, they would have worked passenger and freight on the Santa Cruz or Los Gatos branches and eventually wound up on the NWP.


For a long time, Neal's N-Gauging Trains had an A-B shark pair painted Black Widow.

Great questions. And food for thought.

As for a steam generator -- quite frankly, I did not think of the bay area or the NWP possibilities.  As I model So. Cal. that aspect completely escaped my thoughts. I may revisit this. Thanks, for bringing it to my attention.

As for the #2 end silver -- I wanted to keep the silver kind of even looking -- if that makes sense. I know, on GP's and SD's the silver did not go as far "back" -- however, it just didn't look right on this one (Also-- the rear end has a slight slope to it). This was a challenging locomotive, as far as deciding how to apply the paint scheme. At first I was looking at going with the F unit style -- but, it didn't feel right. 

A shark in Black Widow sounds great. Alco's FA would as well. To bad the SP didn't purchase the Baldwin or Alco products. SP looked at and tested both, but opted for the EMD products.

Instead of the double F unit headlights, shouldn't it be a sealed headlight with a gyrolight over it (like on the low nosed GP-9s)? Either way, a SP BL-2 is just wrong (but based on passed performance, I will overlook this indiscretion).

God damn, so much good modeling in this thread. Week after week...

And all I did was JFRTM on the Philly NTRAK layout and finish shortening the ends that turn Vintage Chemical into an armadillo.

The two of the Conrail stuff were posed on Mark Beer's pair of modules. They've been some of my favorites for many, many years.




And a quicks shot of the recently refreshed Strasburg module. Scenery goes gray over time and my dad has done a great job of sprucing it up for its 30th birthday.

I fitted the little Davenport with couplers this afternoon then did a test run to see how it pulls. Here it is handling 15 Atlas and Kato 2 bays. I’m quite pleased with how it runs.

I know - I know... But,  I just had to do it. (As I stated -- it's a foob) --
I thought about this type of headlight arrangement - however, with the BL-2's goofy face -- I just couldn't see it working. So, I went with the F unit style of double light.

Wolf, I dig the SP BL-2 a lot! Even for a prototype stickler like me, there's something about a well-executed foob that is really cool and a nice break from the prototypical grind. I remember from quite a while ago, a guy was making HO scale ATSF C44-9W cabless B units and called them "wales". I have, for a long time, considered doing one in N scale.

Yes....like that! Hadn't considered doing a radiator section on both ends, though (figuring out what to use or how to do the cabless section has been somewhat of a stumbling bock).
