I have a number of those Tomytec chassis I've picked up over the years...they're inexpensive and good runners. Easy to find on the secondary market at trolley shows...

This is Twitter, but it shows the inside of the new chassis:

The motor is offset slightly to one side and a bunch of spur gears going over to the other wheel.

I had a feeling that it would be a single-shaft motor. Maybe similar to what they used in the FEF loco and other Japanese-prototype stem locos.

You can now reserve them from plazajapan on eBay.

It's an interesting design. I like the giant flywheel.

That is a retentively large (long) coreless motor.  Probably same one used in the Kato FEF-3. I also reserved couple from plazajapan (supposedly out by the end of November).

I got mine in the mail today from Plaza Japan. Can't believe how well it runs! I didn't even have to nudge it to get it going. Nice and smooth and slow. Of course it still has warp top speed if that is your thing  :P

Darn!  Mine is still in the mail (also from Plaza Japan).  Top speed too high?  DCC has a fix for that.  :D
