KD now offering a Kinematic drop-in coupler for the BLI P70

Keystone Details announces two N Scale drop-in replacement coupler 8 packs for the BLI P70, one in FUD, one in brass, to reduce coupling distance, reduce the knuckle size to near prototype, and to utilize the kinematic follower already on the car.

The FUD version is capable of pulling up to 19 free rolling passenger cars (YMMV with lesser cars).

See the coupler tested and in action here:

The FUD version can be ordered here.

And the Brass version ordered here.

Thanks for looking!

Good looking couplers.

When I read the title, my first thought was that the icon was wrong.  KD doesn't make N scale anymore, that's Micro-Trains.  Then I read the post...  One of these days I'll catch up on all of the new companies, maybe.

And, yes, many of my older cars still have "KD" couplers, not MT.  It says so right on the box!

Thanks John!

Just a little confused though.  Which type of BLI replacement steps do these Kinematic drop-in couplers work with?  The plain drop in steps (https://www.keystonedetails.com/products/n-scale-details/2019/9/28/n-scale-drop-in-steps-for-bli-prr-p70-models-8-pk) or the ones with the integral coupler mount, either long or short.  https://www.keystonedetails.com/products/n-scale-details/2019/9/28/n-scale-drop-in-steps-for-bli-prr-p70-models-8-pk-fx8kg-zsll9

@reinhardtjh , Just the drop in steps- the kinematic will interfere with the integral steps which get a 2004 MT coupler in the middle and the kinematic follower is removed altogether for those.

Thanks. That's what I thought but the wording confused me.

Hi John:
These look great.  There is a relatively small price difference between the FUD and brass.  Is there any downside to using the brass?

My guess is that the tolerances of the brass are bigger as it involves a 2-step procedure. On the other hand, it will be more durable/ I probably will go for the brass ones.

@dougnelson not that I can see.  All of the track testing was done with the brass one.  Only concern to me is blackening.  The Neolube wiped right off.  So maybe a chemical blackening or a homespun plating al la Max.
