Thank you!  I'll plan on ordering some this weekend.  I haven't done much with Shapeways, but the few orders I've sent didn't have any problems.

I saw the Wheeler and Connell docks, since I'm from Pasco, and wondered if they were the ones in WA.  Yep!

That's the locations! My layout has Connell, Bruce, and Wheeler from the NP's Idaho Division, 8th Sub. I got lazy and re-used the Connell ramp for Bruce as it's close enough.

Like the comments at Shapeways say, my plan was to use etched brass ladders and grills for the reefer unit. There are a number of good images of the front of reefer units floating around for reference. Microscale makes a decal sheet and, following the prototype, my plan was to apply the side logo decals to a separate piece of styrene and then attach it to the side of the container. As mainline traffic isn't much of an emphasis any more, this project has been awarded a quite low priority.

For the side logos on at least one, I was going to find a good picture, print them out, and glue them on.  I have a MSD set, but it has the same small logo as the MT container, not the larger-than-the-name early logo.

Is thee another Sea-Land set from MSD?  Mine is 60-311, with various container logos.

60-731 has larger logos, but they are intended for 40 or 45 foot trailers. You'd have to do some cutting to make them work, presuming the size is correct, or nearly so. Another option would be to see if you can examine one of the HO sheets to see if one of the logos on it is the correct size.

Thank you for the decal number, but those are also too modern.   I'm looking for this one:
from http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part4/seau35-1979.jpg

They say anything can be found on the internet, but old Sea-Land logos are apparently not out there, at least not in straight-on pictures.  Plenty of the modern Maersk-SeaLand, but I don't want those.

I ordered some of your containers today.

Saw your order, thank you.

Regarding the logo, I haven't been able to find anything either. If you can wait a couple of months, and then remind me, I'll take a stab at the artwork as well. I think I've collected enough odds and ends to make something passable but it'll be in the queue behind getting things done for a major ops weekend next month.

I can wait a couple months, that's not a problem.  Containers on my railroad are basically just flatcar loads, not a critical part of operations, so I'm just collecting a variety!

Wheels of Time had these decals made when they released the 35' container "kits".

The N scale Sealand stuff was gobbled up pretty quickly though.

I have a set, but its only enough for what I have.

Speaking of Maersk, it is impossible to find 70s era decals for Maersk.

Thank you!  I think I can make that picture work for creating lettering.  The left side has the early, large-logo style I want, although it's a little fuzzy.   Since those early containers used separate lettering panels, decals aren't really needed.  Just print the logos and glue them on.

Maybe, since the containers are available on Shapeways, WOT will reprint the decals.  I'm sure there'd be a market for them, and it wouldn't be nearly as hard, or expensive, as rerunning their containers.

The one image I could find of a 70s era Maersk on Matts Place (http://www.matts-place.com/intermodal/part1/images/maeu1037043.jpg) didn't seem that out of hand... it's an odd angle for the image, and I think the best way to do it would be a decal per letter, but it appears straightforward.

I have some proto pics around somewhere ...

Sounds simple, but there's that logo ... also, a lot of work for a handful (at most) of containers that I would want.

Wally HO container:

Wally Ho again

There is a also an early scheme without the logo on the sides:

But if I remember the ends have the logo, so maybe not so simple.

Mark,

Some follow-up questions:

1. Can you do the math for me to generate outer dimensions for side, front, and rear stars? Would include the outer field. (Apologies: I'd do it myself but I'm on a time crunch; incoming laserboard tomorrow, so I need to work on my feed lot)

2. Would you be after vector files - my preferred solution - or jpg files?

...and a statement: the words "Maersk Line" would take a while longer, as I'd need to figure out the font involved or create some letters from scratch.

That's an interesting picture. I did not realize those exterior post 40' containers lasted into (at least) the mid 1990's - the BNSF era !
K-Line and OOCL also had similar containers and APL had 20 post sides.....

Doesn't look too different from the MT container.  There's a lot of schemes they could do if they'd rerun them.

" Maybe JTC will come out with some early 20 footers to match their new 40 ft containers."

We have a "20' container series" researched, and are awaiting a determination on the sales of our 40' early era containers to help determine if there is enough of a demand for early 20 footers. The Series would include smooth-sides, reefers, 'Rib' square corrugation styles and panel side versions. + variations of those listed.

May have an update in Q3.  :)  New style, Early 40' rib side containers are due Q2.

@JaxTerminal

I've been meaning to post this all week, finally found the source again.

For 1970s 20 footers I nominate the Matson schemes seen here.  Note there are at least 3 permutations of container types and schemes.

Believe it or not, everything else in that scene has already been done in N scale.  (Atlas for the TTCX flats, and IM for the caboose.)
