So verification that this is a hoax seems to be spreading across Facebook, but it's being outpaced by the original bullsh!t by an order of magnitude.  Hobby shops are even getting this same, poorly rendered hoax from distributors without fact checking.

Imagine how much better a place the world would be if people naturally sought a second source for new information as a matter of reflex.  I know I do.

So is the whole thing fake or just the US part?

Quote
I verified with Testor this memo is real and accurate. I think people might be missing it says international sales. US sales will continue. Still not good news if you don't live in the US. But everyone who lives in the US can continue to buy their paint. I confirmed the memo with the company. You can call yourself to verify using the CS number on Testor's website. Model Madhouse you may want to update your post to clarify US sales are not affected. It's only international sales. People seem to be missing the international part or not reading the memo.

Just funny how many posts I see of people who confirmed it as just overseas sales.

What amazes me is how much traction this got on the Internet with nobody having the common sense to contact the freaking company. Even hobby shops are saying that it’s shutting down.

Thanks for using your head Dave!

Unfortunately the human population in general is getting more and more gullible and lazy.  Critical thinking, verifying "facts", and looking for second and 3rd source information is getting rare.  While this can be annoying when hoaxes are passed on as real news in our hobbies, it can be (and is) downright dangerous when it comes to politics (where the same thing is occurring on a daily basis).  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

Kind of hard to verify a quote when I don’t know who you’re quoting.

But again, let’s put on our critical thinking caps. The reason given in this memo for Testors folding, is that the parent company finds it too expensive to continue production in small batches.  Yep maintaining production for the US only makes the batch is even smaller. It just doesn’t add up, and it just smells like Internet stupidity and gullibility. I’m sorry, but I remain completely unconvinced.

It's in there somewhere, don't know how to link to a specific post.

On Testors FB page when asked about closing.

Not at all, Dave! Rust-Oleum continues to sell the Testors brand in the US and Canada. And, by the way, we’re always creating new products for the craft & hobby painter!

Did you ask Rustoleum about fish oil?

My 80yo next door neighbor warned me about using it because it has fish oil and other paint will not stick over it. But I found that fish oil was only in the original formula many years ago.

Yep maintaining production for the US only makes the batch is even smaller.

Not to give any credence to the claims in the letter, but selling in other countries involves labeling requirements unique to that jurisdiction (for example, French/English language labels in Canada) which would necessitate separate smaller runs for at least some of the production.

While the production runs for the raw materials are larger, the lots for bottling/labeling are smaller, and an added expense.

Edit: In addition each country has their own laws for packaging, handling, sales and shipping of dangerous goods, which may or may not apply...

Once again, not at all trying to prove any claims, just making a statement that manufacturing is not a monolith of more=easier.

Also I imagine most of your frustration on this subject stems from Facebook? Came in here all guns blazing!  :D

They already screwed up the labeling. Buy a can of spray paint and remove the cap, you no longer have any indication of what's in the can. Now I write the contents on the can with a Sharpie.

Perhaps a unscrupulous overseas company want to break into the market and think if they post something like this it'll make open the market up for them. Its stupid but I cant really think of any other way something like this could even vaguely  benefit anybody beyond a troll.

Simply give the top of the can cap a quick spritz of the actual paint in the can. Now you have instant  color reference that is 100% accurate.

Long time ago the companies that manufactured paints in aerosol cans used to do that themselves (especially on automotive paints, but I've seen it on other paints too). That is no longer being practiced (likely a cost saving measure).  I still have few of those cans with painted caps.

I'll have to stick with @Chris333's method.  I'm colorblind!
