Looking for N scale coal handling equipment

You tweaked my interest in the article and would like to check it out. However, I have checked my last two issues of NScale magazine and find no such article.

Would you please check and advise what issue and possibly a page number for the article. Was it perhaps in another magazine?

If you are looking for modern equipment, go to a John Deere dealer and check out their key chains.  They sell a front end loader that scales out close to a large n scale one.  You will have to file off the part that attaches to the key chain, but for the price, it is an easy fix.  I have two of them for my layout and I am very satisfied with how they look.

Try to find the real coal handling equipment you need, then figure out how to model it in N.

Tractor Supply usually has a lot of this stuff toward Christmas. Not the most detailed or scaled correctly, but a coat of paint and some weathering, and it should look suitably massive from 3'

I wrote that article and the Komatsu keychain is spot on N Scale. Another great option is the Baldylox loader.

Your model looks typically great, but it's definitely a modern style (and current Komatsu scheme) and still perhaps a fraction too small for large capacity rail car loading.

The bucket on a WA600 has almost 50% more capacity than a WA470 and the body is noticeably bigger in all dimensions.

A WA600 is probably more what you want, but this is available. The WA470 is the same height as a 90 ton hopper (if you subtract the height of the rail)

What are the trucks and couplers used for?

I’m guessing Brett copied and pasted from his Jordan Spreader page. You don’t need any of those parts.
