Ah HA!!! So there are fans moving ambient air into and out of the box. That answers my question - dusty environment is going to be ill-advised. I also noticed today the office is not a good location, either, as the south-facing sliding glass door floods the room with sunlight most of the day. I guess it gets to live in the layout room.

A footnote after two days with the Photon... yeah, there's an odor after all. Not offensive, to us, at least. We returned from lunch this afternoon just in time to catch a batch of prints finishing up. Walked thru the studio front door and "Oh, there is a smell," shrugged our shoulders, and went back to work.

Thanks to all for the advice. Minor glitch on the first run, but after cleaning things up it seems to be doing what it was designed to do.
