Attempting some wood varnish.  All of Norfolk Southern's passenger cars (until the McGinnis era and except for a couple express cars) were wood.  As no one makes an appropriate wood coach in N, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Finally replaced a bum worm gear in this N-scale PSC K4. I discovered it after remotoring it a while back. I have it reassembled now, new traction tires installed, an LED headlight installed, and some tungsten putty added over the drivers. Next is to complete the sound decoder / keep-alive install in the tender, doing some touch-up painting, and weather it up. I love how this runs - very quiet and smooth with the new Maxon motor.

This must be the week for brass work. I actually did some modeling this weekend, of an unexpectedly different sort. Started restoration on a C&O T-1 belonging to @ChristianJDavis1 that suffered moderate fire and water damage. After drilling out and replacing quite a number of rusted screws, freeing up a seized motor, and performing various other fixes, I got it mechanically functional again; it's mostly reassembled now, and happily running back and forth on a length of flex.

The T-1 is now 100% mechanically restored and reassembled, complete with a directional warm white LED headlight (an upgrade from a non-directional microbulb, which did not survive the fire/water damage).

Having spent too much money and supplied too many projects that may or may not ever get built, I'm exhausted and ready to drive home.  But what a splendid event this has been!


Especially enjoyed catching up with many Railwire celebs, major and minor, and contributing to the DKS house account.

More news and photos once I get back into Wi-Fi territory.
