The article on the “Minigras Platter” for static flocking wire tree armatures is worth a look here. Very nice effect.

European modelers continually impress me in the scenery department. This is the #1 reason to read these European modeling publications whenever possible, even if you can’t relate to the other modeling content. Woodland Scenics and MR have really held us back for generations.

I'm not really familiar with the other scales, but Z-wise David K. Smith's work is certainly a known reference on our (European) side of the pond in terms of scenery and attention to detail. And its my impression that the trend towards ever more realistic looking Z-scale layouts over here is a relatively recent one, with Dirk Kuhlmann (www.helenensiel.com), Karl Sinn (www.spur-z-atelier.de/referenzen/niles-junction/), Sven Rohmann (http://azlforum.com/thread/497/chesapeake-bay-modules-all-module) and others pushing the envelope. Dirk Kuhlmann also happens to be an editor of Trainini magazine and his scenery articles over the past two years have really been of great help to me when I started entering the hobby not too long ago.

I think page 6 is very relevant to all the modular layouts out there .. take a look at the rules published ..

Before we start with the first track diagram, I would like to give you some tips for your own consideration. Of course the tastes are different, but a layout should have some important points for an exhibition at the end of the second decade of the 21st century: •    Avoidance of rails running parallel to the edge of the system •    The landscape must have “depth and height”, this is also possible with an installation board •    Construction of tunnels, only as required •    A station doesn't always have to be the main point of attraction •    A finished layout should work for itself, i.e. above all, also without rolling stock  •    Circuit camouflage •    Subsequent illumination of the layout should also be incorporated into the planning.
