I would buy a Kato Big Boy if they make it. Yeah the Athearns is a nice model but for running quality I preferred the Kato since it will match my Kato FEF and run just as good.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Interesting ... the NYC 20th was announced in June of last year, for Q2 2019  (now 2020):

The Big Boy will suck up a lot of Kato's  tooling allotment for North American for a while, oh well. We all know Mr. K has been wanting to do this for years!  :D

I'm actually excited for the Big Boy...
Kato's design should lend itself to kit bashing better then the Athearn or earlier models.

Missabe Yellowstones may be in my future... 😊

I hope that you're right (looking  at Kato's track record, you likely are). Athearn Big Boys and Challengers are a huge pain to service (disassemble/reassemble). Many parts are glued together and need to be unglued and reglued. Lots of wires everywhere which need to be dealt with (unsoldered/resoldered).

the complete TCL set would no doubt follow the BL model version of a 10-11 car set with one 4-car add-on set. However now KATO seems to be selling limited amounts of  single car "kits" for their passenger train sets, available through them, for anybody who'd want extras. But you have to move quick on them because they don't stay in stock very long.

I would have rather seen a Dreyfus Hudson to go with a 1930's version of the 20th Century Ltd.

I missed that.  That is good news.  I have two of the Athearn models and do like them.
