There’s a flower shop in Orbisonia PA named FLORAL FANTASY. Many years ago, their name was spelled out in big, individual capital letters on their facade.  However, the first “F” and “L” were  missing.

Missing letters are a whole 'nother dimension is signage jokes.  There was one across from where I worked that used to say "Homemade Ice Cream" and "Frozen Yogurt" on separate lines - until somebody broke-off the left side of the sign and left "memade ice cream" and "zen yogurt".  The owner liked that enough that he didn't fix the sign.  And, then there is type-setting errors - now a lost entertainment in a lost art.  One of my college newspapers left out the space between the L and the U in a bar advertisement that included "FREE FLICKS".  The administration was the only very small group of people in town who were not amused.

As a retired typographer I know that, no, it was intentional. Besides, I've seen it before. Hand-set and machine-set typefaces have hard spacing around each character ("side bearings"), and modern typefaces have the ability to squeeze letter combinations together (called "kerning"). Somebody selected a specific typeface ("sans serif") with small side bearings around the 'L' and 'I' and/or kerned them with the intent to read the combination as a "U".

Besides, they could've said "FREE MOVIES", but where's the fun in that, huh?

I think someone needs to take on the challenge of compiling a list of all the jobs Mike has held in his distinguished career.

Glad to see you are ok. I used to work in Fairfield Commons about 5 years ago. When I was 14 I was on a golf course in Cincinnati when the super tornado outbreak hit here and in Xenia.

I moved to Dayton about 3 weeks after Xenia .. that was a real mess .. I got really lucky

I couldn't figure that one either. Too subtle for us, I guess.  Now it's all clear (or is it wet and messy)?   
However, dying is a bit more severe malady than going blind.

Haha, that reminds me. While I don't generally like covering my layout in jokes. I have NO qualms about them for waybills. Back on Windsor St there were a bunch of boxcars moving from the paper mill job to Dunder Mifflin, Scranton PA.
