Oh, crap. I'd love to attend, but that's just too far for this old fart to drive. The Rail-B-Qs near Harrisburg were right at my limit.

@ChristianJDavis1 will need to be my proxy.

The Amtrak station is all of 4700' from the Jaffa, over normal walkable sidewalks, and the pedestrian overpass is 'the hangout' for all the railfan-minded folks at the event anyway, so calling or hitching a ride around is entirely practical.   If you can manage to get in via Amtrak on the Pennsylvanian the rest is relatively easy.   I think we had maybe..18 or 20 folks there from Railwire last year so you have friends in low places.   There were a lot of modelers there in town, at the hotels, museum, curve, downtown, it's turned into something more than a blip.

There's lots of hotel choices, most are south of Altoona and located near the expressway exits rather than downtown, or down by the Convention Center south of town.   One of the closest is the Microtel, that's where I've hung out as it is so convenient to downtown, but there are many others.

Right now the Everett RR isn't scheduling anything that weekend, but I'm plugged in with them if that changes at all.  They add specials and charters if they have demand.

I've penciled it in.  My aim is to bring my TTrak gizmos so I can play with other kids in that sandbox...

Gee, only 1,642 road miles from here. Drive time 23 hours.

Hmmmmm. Maybe not.

Amtrak!!!

Amtrak? I seem to remember this Amtrak. Last time I seen it around here was fall of '79.

Sadly the earlier date in August with the Jaffa location overlaps with an a 4H fair that we as a club have been setting up at for 15 or so years.

What is this 'bring trains to run' you speak of? I'm liking that.

People/clubs will let you run your trains on their layouts if you ask nicely.  One year we had a teenager that was able to run his train on every single layout there.  I think he got a prize or something.

Have to add last year's shirt to this. Reservations already made at our "unofficial BANTRAK Motel"

Just don't do REAL Conrail Blue. It's a great color on locomotives but horrible when used for pretty much anything else.
