Which demonstrator paint scheme? Solid Maroon or tri-tone? And its probably the same reason there why there hasn't been any UP done. They did one run of them in 2006 which was the undec, SP, and CSX. Heck by that time, there was patched demos on CSX, patched SP on UP, and over 1000 in non-flag, 4526-4528 first flags (which are different than current), current flag, Olympic units (will never happen), Z stripe variations on repainted SP (ie 3997 & others), there was NS' 10, NYSW's 3, and lets not forget the 55 standard SD70s.

Hell I'm sure if they ran a run and included UP 4014 as the number, and reran the flares with 4884, that they would have been hot sellers with people trying to recreate that scene when 4014 left Cali for colder weather.

Chris,

I'm talking about the demonstrators in solid maroon with the white lettering, I believe starting with 7000. They fit within my timeline but not any of the delivered paint schemes.

I do wish that more manufacturers would follow eBay sales of their products a couple years after their runs.  Often as not, baggage cars and RPOs fetch higher prices than sleepers or even diners from sets.  When you can find them at all.  I wonder how Kato would do if it did 2 car or 4 car add on sets of head end equipment from its trains, like they do with sleepers.

Chris,

I'm talking about the demonstrators in solid maroon with the white lettering, I believe starting with 7000. They fit within my timeline but not any of the delivered paint schemes.

The 3 original demonstrators EMDX 7000 - 7002 wore the classy maroon / silver / grey paint scheme:

Due to demand, EMD then built a subsequent 22 units for the EMD Lease fleet, and spent most of their early lives on the SP / UP on the I-5 corridor between LA and Portland. The first of these wore the simplified (cheaper) version of the Demo scheme but with the black underframe and trucks etc:

The last few (7016, 7018-7019, 7021-7024) wore the maroon "Barney" scheme later adopted for the lease fleet:

The demos ended up on CSX mostly in Florida, I remember seeing them i SFL when they were first acquire and the slowly showing up repainted first  in YN2 and then in YN3. Ironically they are all back on UP after CSX got rid of them during there resent loco purge as Progressive leesers.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.
