First the disclaimer. These are not my photos but are a friend of mine, Cameron. They were taken Tuesday afternoon in Ogden Utah, he had sent me one earlier in the day with 1941 hiding behind a bunch of auto racks as has been recent practice for these two locos

I shot it at 200mm zoom, so that may have something to do with it.

I believe this yard was originally built by L&N, or maybe even the Middlesborough Belt RR, to help support mine runs here on the Bennets Fork Branch, the Fork Ridge Branch near the end of the Bennets Fork Branch, and the Stoney Fork Branch on the other side of Fork Ridge (the mountain in the background). It is appropriately named Gravity Yard.

Looking at pictures of real trackwork, I am often seeing humps, kinks and other things that I would not want to mimic on my N scale model layout for fear of creating operating issues.  But I do sometimes think that really good trackwork, especially on industrial spurs, tends to make things look more "toy-like".  Modeling grass, mud, etc. do help with the illusion.
