3+ years later...

My first MA&PA TTRAK module is very well under way.

This is Glen Arm, make a left out of my driveway, go a few miles and you'd arrive here.

My dad built the station, and I'm working on creating a module worthy of displaying it.

The plan is to have this ready to go for the Altoona N Scale Weekend.

I'm very pleased to see this project revived.  I still have an inkling to do the Towson bridge scene.  I'm just waiting for Walthers to release a kit of Stebbins Andersen in N scale...

That foam is so much neater than slinging plaster or joint compound.  That is a nice looking module!

Ok, there's no rule against resurrecting a four year old thread...

Here's an update on Glenarm. I was very unhappy with the original texture and color mixture of the lot around the station.

There were too many speckles and it just didn't look like my work. While I had the grout out for working on the NCR I decided to fix the situation.

I'm usually not as gung-ho about grout as ballast, but that really does look a lot better! Didn't look bad to begin with, but does look more refined now.

Texture really is everything when it comes to scenery.

Talk to me about the dirt between the lot and the weeds along the back. The color is perfect...

I think that's my "yard ballast mix" which is basically 50/50 "charcoal" unsanded and my darkest gray sanded.

TTrak needs a 1T division

I've done the "1T" modules for years, with both "Hickory Bridge" and "Thompson" down at Altoona. Both "1T's" are half-wide, so back to back they fit the standard 14" footprint on a table.   Two junction modules on either end bring them back to standard.

I'm also a firm believer in Peco C55 on cork using only Kato track for end connectors.

The other thing that gets you is the freedom to not struggle to ballast over Unitrack.    My PRR Salamanca Division was a one-track main line, well built on rock ballast, but one track.  So the 'second track' on standard modules is always cinder ballast to de-emphasize it entirely as a siding.  Completely different look.

Ed's seen all this along with my one-track ideas.    I've really now gone over the edge on my Barge Yard module where both 'main lines' are weedy cinder ballast and pretty much just yard tracks as it relates to any prototype use, the "Main Line" is a single-track bridge approach to Hickory Bridge module.     I'm looking forward to MK blasting one of his high-speed Japanese trains through that one....

I saw a corner module on Facebook that was just fantastic - split the two mains on a very wide corner, with both tracks on opposite sides of a river canyon, reminded me of CN/CP in western Canada.   Best corner ever.
