Crikey! What a rare find! Five Telehandlers still in their cocoon!
Oh Bugger! One's already out!
Looks like he hasn't spotted us yet. Let's leave them be and let those others finish gestating.

I started on my Conrail 7906 project. This is an ex-Penn Central GP38 delivered with a short nose/extended cab to accommodate dual control stands.
I took the center windows and number boards from a GP40, added .040 styrene around the edges, and attached to an Atlas high-nose EMD cab. It looks good so far, I still need to add the distinctive roof overhang on both sides of the cab and cut the center windows to fit.

Cool project!

Several years ago someone commissioned me to design that cab for Reading’s SD-45s. I designed it to fit the Kato SD45, but it should fit the 38s. Send me a PM if you’re interested.

After four attempts I have a 3D printed boiler house that I’m happy with.

I’ve also done some work to a B&M buggy. Painted the ends blue, fitted True Scale couplers and weathered it.

The boiler house looks great with all the fancy brickwork. Better than many injection-molded kits! I'm in awe what can be done with 3D printing (and in your own workshop).  Amazing stuff.

The caboose looks good too. Nice weathering on the body, but those trucks look brand new or freshly painted black!  I would think that they would be just as grungy as the body, and even rusty too.

Yeah the trucks need work. I was using burnt umber for the body and it’s so dark that there’s no point putting it on black. I’ll use something lighter, but it wasn’t out at the time.

The power house looks great.  Because of you guys I learned to cast resin and bought a computer cutter.  Now you're going to drive me to get a 3D printer.   Keep up the good work.

I've been continuing with the freight car weathering campaign.  More AC&Y hoppers for stone service.

Carbon black hoppers for shipments to Goodyear and General off Spur 4.  These are REALLY nice models.  So happy to see them produced.

And a promo for MRP and the AC&Y layout spread within.  More in the AC&Y Layout Engineering thread

The handrails were broken of better than half the tank cars I bought second hand.  I replaced them with 0.015" wire.  I think it looks better but not by so much that I'll redo the other three with unbroken plastic handrails.  Plastic on left, wire on right.

Do you or anyone else by any chance have a contact for these if they are still available?

Yes, still available from George Carroll here in North Vancouver.  Send me a PM with your name and email address and I will put you in touch with him.

More of these are in my near future.

Thanks Tim. I was hoping you would know as it’s been so long since I didn’t have the faintest clue who to contact.

Hi Otto,
I saw your post and thought I would say hi. Its been a few years now since we visited your layout and I delivered your Cantilever signal gantries how are they surviving? How is your layout progressing.

with best regards

Hello Vic, I didn't know you were on here, good to hear from you from down under (or anywhere)!
The layout is progressing, although painfully slow. Im trying to wrap up the wiring, and it's been taking about ten times as much time as I thought it would...not my favorite part of the hobby. Your cantilevers are surviving and looking fine, but I'm embarrassed to admit not yet functional as I'm still installing BD-20 detectors. Signalization is a huge undertaking (and it would be much simpler without scenery in the way). So for now, your handiwork is just "pretty scenery"... see below.
Great to hear from you!
Otto

@jereising and @C855B had a brief discussion about signals over in Gary's Tehachapi, BC thread.

Your cries did not go un-heard!  I did some proofing and think I came up with a decent result.
Admittedly, I know very little on signals.  But if we can have another one of those 'clinic' threads, I bet we can get something working.

I started with a simple drawing intended to test print-ability.  The shield printed great!  Hoods survived enough to know they'll succeed with a slight thickening.
But most importantly, the interior is hollow!   All that's left would be proper combinations of hoods and what not.

From there, I did two methods of illumination.  MicroLEDs and Fiber Optic.

Here are the LEDs:

You, sir, are a magician. There is no other way to explain the "impossible" you manage time and time again.  8)

Great result. You have a good starting point, a 24" target with medium visors with what could become a US&S cast back. I am surprised the resin will go that thin on the target, so a smidge more, like you said, will fix the visors. I'm no expert on exact signal configurations and dimensions (other than a couple of 1:1 signals in my collection), but I think collectively we can get us there.

My personal preference is LED over fiber. Fiber (I'm presuming you were using 0.010") maxes-out the mast with just a single head, plus it appears your sample was 1/16" standard tubing; we signal weenies have been using either Special Shapes' 3/64" thin-wall (0.006") or one of the stainless steel surgical tubes from Ngineering, usually 0.032". Ideally the mast should accommodate up to 12 leads in #36 or #38 wire.

Let me contemplate for a few moments and we'll start that design thread. I hope to get @robert3985 into this discussion, as well, as he has deep research into UP signal styles in the '50s and '60s (where my interest is, too), plus I can help with suggestions where that base information can be extended to other roads' variations.

Like I need to give @Mark W more of my money.

With one kid sleeping at a friends house and chilly winds blowing outside I went back to work in the modeling shop:

The rear rail wheels are now installed as are two accurate couplers I had rolling around. Once it warms above 60 or so (which will be in the next day or two) I’ll take this off to the paint shop (which I do in the garage).

Meanwhile my detail oarts boxes have yielded numerous items that are already painted and await installation.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot. Base coat gray wash over grout. Will sift dirt and sand and weather.
Will need parking bumpers and some markings. Additional sparse desert vegetation. Ignore big stupid over-sized insulator
that fell on the track. I am getting more prototypical poles soon.

Holy Socks!  I had tunnel vision on that one, asking for frets and not even thinking about printing!

I agree with Mike on the LEDs and masts.

I'll follow a thread with much interest - I'd reequip the Sub completely if we can come up with something.
