I decided to get back into an old freight car project I started years ago but didn’t finish. Other BCR modellers will recognize the CS Models woodchip gondolas. I think they are from the early ‘80s and are the only model I know of for a BCR woodchip hopper in N scale. They are styrene, come flat in 5 pieces and, in my case, were badly warped. I managed to get them assembled a couple of years ago by strapping the pieces to a wood block, rubber banding, glueing, and then once dry dipping them in boiling water. This made them retain a rectangular shape. I left them as is and decided now to get back to them.

I added Precison Scale brake gear, Gold Medal Models brake wheels, cross over platforms, and stirrups, and hand bent grabs from .008”bronze wire. I did the grabs on 5 cars tonight, and have 5 more to go. Once done they’ll be ready for paint.

Craig.

Edit: while the store that made them is long gone I think one of the guys who ran the store still has stock of these and they can be had for about $8 if I recall.

The CG N Scale Telehandlers are available again!  I had to keep 6 for myself.  Again, these resin parts are sooo much easier to work with than the brittle FUD/FXD, and they take paint very well!

The PRR shop had a fruitful but tiring day.  Sixteen P70 car bodies in one day!

Well, had a bit of a setback here; several storms rolled through and the last one dumped a lot of rain, some of it into the train room... not much damage to the layout, but my train money needs to be diverted to getting the roof fixed, for the THIRD fricking time. Why can't I get a decent roofer???

I talked to someone in Cali today who had to cut a vacation short because it started raining. Meanwhile we are supposed to get 10-12" of snow this weekend  :|

craigolio1:  I have a couple of those CS Models cars painted for the NP and BN.  The ladder arrangement looks a little odd for a US car, so I replaced them with Walthers ladderstock, but for years they were the only commercial chip car available in N scale.

I also have a few flatcar loads made from their wrapped lumber kits.

Hi Otto,
I saw your post and thought I would say hi. Its been a few years now since we visited your layout and I delivered your Cantilever signal gantries how are they surviving? How is your layout progressing.

with best regards

I started on my Conrail 7906 project. This is an ex-Penn Central GP38 delivered with a short nose/extended cab to accommodate dual control stands.
I took the center windows and number boards from a GP40, added .040 styrene around the edges, and attached to an Atlas high-nose EMD cab. It looks good so far, I still need to add the distinctive roof overhang on both sides of the cab and cut the center windows to fit.
The fabric of reality has begun to fray.

After four attempts I have a 3D printed boiler house that I’m happy with.

I’ve also done some work to a B&M buggy. Painted the ends blue, fitted True Scale couplers and weathered it.

I forgot about the lumber loads. Somewhere I have a Canfor load I should build and put on a bulkhead.

Oooo that crummy looks nice. 3D print? Looks very similar to the ones CGW used, rounded roof sides and all.

It’s Atlas, they did a few CGW numbers as well. It’s a NE-5, they came out in 2017.

Do you or anyone else by any chance have a contact for these if they are still available?
