Greetings all,

Somehow I missed this...Skytop models closed down.  He says he's fine but moved on to other interests.  Does anyone know of a way to see if he still has any extra parts for a Twin Cities Zephyr dome observation?  I had hoped for a Wabash 1601 eventually.  I  would convert it from the CBQ car if I had to.   On another note what would it take to 3-D print the car?

He made some stellar models. The day I was going to buy his E5b to outfit a California Zephyr set I was debating about buying, he announced he was closing up shop. He did make good cars, I have the 60' baggage and outside door express boxcar, all nice and clean with out any visible parting lines you'd expect from a raw resin casting.

Yeah, I was hoping for that 1601 shell myself.  Guess it is back to plan A - which is to say, the sort of semi accurate one I pasted together out of Kato parts (and end of the roof of a ConCor obs, IIRC).

If I had more casting experience and didn't need a new roof, I would be tempted to make him an offer on the molds.

Is there another way to get CB&Q Havelock "economy" baggage cars?

I missed the opportunity to buy some of them.

Happy New Year from Skytop Models !

I've been considering making castings again with one small change. The raw castings will be sold as is out of the molds with no flash cleanup. I previously cleaned up flash mostly from along the bottom sides of the models. This differs from model to model with some requiring minimal work while others require much more (such as the E5B unit). For the most part my older molds produce more flash but as I gained experience the newer molds yield much better results. Some molds will need to be remade soon and they should benefit as well.

Also I use to drop everything else when I received an order to get it shipped out ASAP. I'm thinking I will pick one day of the week to conduct Skytop Models business. Hopefully this will be a good compromise to get things going again since there still seems to be a demand for these castings. I'll reopen the web site later this week after I stock up on more casting resin. We'll see how this works out but I'll keep the site open until the end of April when I'll be closing down for the summer months again.

There will also be a new casting available, the Milwaukee Road 50 ft box express car !

Thanks for your support and understanding.

Bill D.

Thanks - I hope this way is easier for you.
I've purchased a few castings in the past, and always been amazed at how clean yours were, especially as compared to other suppliers.  I didn't realize you were doing a lot of the work for me!  That said, I'm happy to do it myself.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I think one day a week is very reasonable and entirely understandable. Glad you’re back, I’ll order a RS3 shell soon.

Bill, you've made it a Happier New Year for us passenger train modelers.  Now, I just need to find my 'round to-it and hope the spring roofing project leaves me with a few bucks for Skytop projects.

Nice! I was hoping you would offer your Milwaukee express boxcar after seeing the pics on FB. You will likely have a surge of business upon re-opening!

Thanks for making your stuff available again
