End of the train and end of another year.   I would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy 2019.

Shot at Oban, SK., Nov08/18, on CN grain train 806, is CC 56863 in the as delivered IC scheme... in 2018. Other than the conspicuency stripes and the CC reporting mark, car appeared to be all original. Car is stenciled NEW 5-69.

Cool find, Mike! Somebody must have hid it in a barn somewhere. ;)

Speaking of the IC, here's a bit of private varnish on the southbound City of New Orleans last week. Yes, PV still lives on Amtrak, albeit with a bunch of new rules attached. Thanks to Justin @MRLX1020 for the heads-up.

Train was six hours late, so instead of struggling with a night shot we had pre-dawn twilight and thankfully a fast lens in the bag.

For anyone interested, as I type this, CC 56863 is noted as being empty and having departed Prince George, BC., Dec27 at 1854hrs.

CN has a order for 1000 new grain hoppers currently being delivered from NSC. Though not nearly enough to eliminate the interesting variety seen on CN grain trains, it will likely spell doom for this and other older cars. I shoot as many as I can, especially the cylindrical cars... personal favourites.

Will not be allowed to interchange but can still run in captive service, wonder if running between subsidiaries qualifies as captive service?

CC reporting mark is owned by CN, so it'd be free to roam on any CN line with the exception of the B&LE, because it'd have to be interchanged to reach it.

Took the kids to Strasburg RR on Wednesday.  No. 90 was our locomotive on The Susquehanna:

We also went over to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  I tried to use the kids to hide that font on the nose of CR No. 2233, to avoid upsetting @Ed Kapuscinski:D

A crisp but glorious day on Cajon Pass yesterday, with heavy traffic both ways. Pics below:
UP coal train at Mormon Rocks approaching Canyon siding, and a BNSF manifest at Hill 582.
Yes, there is snow on the San Gabriels in the background, safe distance away... 8)
