Inside the new Atlas SD35

@AKNscale   I don’t have one of the sd35 but I do have the gp39-2 and it sounds very very good as is.

Do you have an IM SD40-2?   If so measure the speaker void in that, as I recall you can get ready made 3D printed enclosures that fit the SD40-2.  JC mentioned it in his upgrading the speaker thread, which I can’t find the link for right now.  If the same then that could save you making an enclosure. Just an idea.
 I would go for the 73199 and you can wire up caps (same way as for the sd40-2) and there is pads for the aux3 and aux 4 for extra lights to use.  So yes some hard wiring for the extras you want/need is involved but still a lot less than any other option.

Eh, relax Carl - no big deal.  It is not like you told anybody to use MRC RailPower 1300 DC throttle to run an ESU decoder.

@Steveruger45: Yes sir, I have 4 of the IM locos. Oddly enough, I was having the same problems with the wobble/derailment that your link is describing. How good are the low sounds on the GP? That’s the main reason for me worrying about a 9x16 in the first place.

I’m very happy with the two GP39-2’s that I have right out of the box.  Ok, I put both on the lokprogrammer and tweaked the sound files a little by slowing down the prime mover sounds and setting them at a little different speed form each other and some volume adjustments on various sound slots and that’s it.  I don’t plan on upgrading the speakers on these and I haven’t even installed any caps in these either.  Like I said I’m very happy with them as is right out the box.

FWIW, I bought one of the Atlas SD35's just to see how the sound was.

It's pretty good.  I probably could do a bit better by rolling my own speaker/enclosure, like I did for the IM SD40-2 (thread here: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=41074.0 ), but I didn't think I could improve it enough to make it worth the work.  Atlas really did a pretty good job on the sound on this one.

Ok, thank you for the thoughts/advice guys. I ordered the 73199’s and I’ll do a write up on what I had to do when I get them going. I’m guessing that they’ll be similar to what I did to get the ditch lights working on my IM 40-2.
