Coil cars at $32.99 MSRP? There better be some tooling upgrades besides better trucks and couplers compared to the Walthers' released version.
Anticipated tariffs are probably baked in. The metal part of the car isn't awful - just too wide by about a foot. The steps are pretty hideous compared to the RC model. The coil shields are pretty bad. They need to be about a foot shorter in height and the absence of handrails is REALLY noticeable.
If they retooled the shields and made the steps more delicate, it could be a good looking car. Especially if they replaced the plastic perimeter walkway with etched parts.
This was a car I was SURE would end up in the Trainman line. But the pricing says otherwise.
FWIW, the Walthers car actually did have interior detailing. Which was promptly sealed from view forever by the coil shields being glued in place.
The Greenville hopper is a nice car. I have several Southern cars though they were very rare up here. I wished New Hampshire Northcoast would have been included.
I would encourage Atlas to take their time with the Walthers stuff and look at what can be upgraded. The Russel Plow is a great example. Window glass is a great addition, but so would live trucks and lighting. The coil car does have issues that need to be addressed.
