Kleins has this set in stock now. What was the usual power for these cars: E8's? GG1's?

Depends upon what trains you're modeling.
The passenger car photo index shows cars with similar roadnumbers in use both on the Jersey Coast line and in suburban Chicago service.
The Kato E8 or GG1 would be appropriate for the trains in NJ, while the E8 or an Atlas GP7 (without DB) would be suitable power for the Chicago trains.

I am amused that they released this when the NYC prototype single window coach release is imminent.

Are these stand-ins for P70s?

I'm guessing that the NYC heavy's did not last into Penn Central. Are these stand-ins for P70s?

The NYC single window coaches may not have made it to PC, but the NH cars almost certainly did.  I don't know how many would have been repainted Deepwater green though.

The set came the other day. Cars a very nice. They look great!

Now to keep my eyes open for a couple of Atlas PC GP7's.
