Pete, thank you, but you're killing me.
I know you meant it as a compliment but I hope it doesn't look kitschy :P

I'm no art critic, but I always thought that those wet-on-wet paintings looked pretty realistic. It is not like I compared it to some Dayglow painting on black velvet.  ;) And yes, I was complimenting you.  It looks like you applied some sort of Photoshop effect to that photo, and I think it looks really good for its intended purpose (or even standing on its own).

LOL! You're welcome.  :) I mentioned Bill Alexander because both him and Bob Ross (I mistakenly said Scott Ross,) had TV series on PBS demonstrating their wet-on-wet oil painting techniques.  I remember watching Bill on TV back in the '80s but everybody seems to only remember Bob. There was even some bad blood between them.   But both Bill and Bob's paintings are pretty good.

Looks like March in Cajon...still a bit of snow on Cucamonga Peak and everything hasn't turned brown yet. Memories...

I’m certainly a major proponent of the photoshopped/real background images. Who cares how nice and realistic the actual models are set against unrealistic painted backdrops. Some may do great work painting but I haven’t seen any that convince me that is the way. With the extent some go with weathering, groundcover and proto fidelity I feel it is truly the best way to set the scene/stage so to speak. And I agree the skills to make these photos look realistic is a major time investment, but the end result of a well done photoback speaks for itself. Your example above is no exception, looks EXCELLENT.

My understanding is that William Alexander taught Bob Ross, and then the student became the master.  Bound to cause some friction.

Yes, Wikipedia page has good info about Bob's life.
