Walthers SW1200 short

Recently installed a Digitrax decoder in a N scale Walthers SW1200. Apart from the electric pick up strips falling off the board change out seemed pretty straight forward. It ran fine on DC before and now with the DCC decoder installed the second it is set on the rails I get a electric short bell from the DCC system. I use EasyDCC for my layout. Any ideas?

See if the bottom brush holder brass connection, to which you most likely soldered to - is shorting out against the frame.
Cheers,

That was my thought but I did not solder anything. The wires from the motor just push through two holes in the decoder. Is it possible to push them too far?

Make sure that the ends of the motor wires didn’t go too far through the decoder and touch the frame underneath.
Hope that helps.

It could be possible the wires pushed thru. Also on the couple I've done, I've put kapton tape across the frame under the decoder. Some of those components get really close touching

Yep, I made this mistake once too. If the wires are too long, they push though the board and touch the frame underneath. I ruined the wire and added kapton tape under the decoder and all is fine.
