Another productive week on the Rio Grande Southern.

More benchwork progress at Ridgway...and since this photo I painted the wood and laminated the first layer of foam.



I finally painted the emergency egress panel for the window.  Here it's propped in place but will eventually be attached with industrial-strength Velcro so it can be pulled out in an emergency.  I'm leaving a little window exposed to allow some natural light when I want it.

When I saw this kit from Walthers (LOL, I know...all the cool stuff they do in HO!):



So boom, problem solved.  It's about an 80% solution but good enough for me:





Also in HO, Grandt Line makes a kit for the famous (among narrow gaugers, anyway) Ruben G. Gomez Store that stood trackside to the D&RGW at Pagosa Junction, Colorado.  I've always liked that structure:

Rather than transplant the Gomez store from Pagosa Junction to Rico, I built it per instruction but chose to name it after a real store and warehouse combo that stood in Rico.  Apparently Charles Engel was a big deal in Rico back in the day.

As I recall Conrail almost ordered GP60s and I think B's too, so your not too far off.

I did some assembly line weathering this weekend.  The group includes some projects that have been in limbo for years, in some case MANY years, so it was good to push them over the finish line.  Five different manufacturers from the early days of N scale right up to present offerings, all lowered, body mounted couplers and weighted.  None of these efforts will win a weathering challenge but they'll fit in just fine I'm sure.  Now on to the next batch.  I need to work on some AC&Y rolling stock.

Very curious as to your technique in lowering the MT 33' double hoppers? I have tried a few different ways with at best moderate success.

Body mount couplers are not that hard, just screw into the existing holes - but really don't look quite right. I was always hoping someone on Shapeways would do a a frame-coupler pocket unit like TrainWorx did.

Judging by the way that York was hacked apart after all of that work to build the street trackage, I assume that it's headed to the dumpster and not being salvaged?  What's happening with the other parts of the layout, e.g., the yard?  Will it find a third home?

If not as part of a new layout it could be sliced into at least 3 sections , re sceniced , and used as photo dioramas for newly built locos and things they pull . Inside/outside curves , street running , etc . Portable to take advantage of real world lighting , and a personal history that stitches together the hobby / time continuum , or not .

Bill - Here are the sketches and notes from my notebook.  Since the 1015 is pretty much the standard body mount choice these days I think it would look better if the back hole (further from the end) was used.  The shank is too long even when the screw hole is move back to the position I chose.  A coupler with a shorter shank would do the trick.  That and the fact that these cars are pretty small and our couplers are pretty large . . . . . .

I built a portable work bench (which means drilled a hole in a old TV tray to mount my bench light) so I can sit by the fire and watch hockey while I decal stuff.
