And Ed, I think that a loco like the NYC Dreyfus Hudson is aesthetically pleasing and elegant loking  to most people.

Oh yeah, but those are definitely the exception. I mean, look at this poor thing...

Wow! What a positive review!

I have forwarded your review to the LRC factory. They are going to be super chuffed when they read it.

Thanks a lot,

Jason

Mark,

thanks for your review.

I have one question. You write: "the Turbo became one of the most reliable trains in the country"

My understanding was that they were totally unrealiable and Amtrak had so many problems due to overheating engines that they stopped using the Turbo Train as quickly as possibly. (I wonder why VIA trains were more reliable.)

Can you please clarify?

I copied all of that prototype information verbatim from the Rapido Trains website, so they would be the ones to answer that  :D

You have to remember what country I live in...

The CN/VIA Turbo in the 1970s had constant 97% on-time-performance and 99% availability. This made it the most reliable train in Canada, though it was very expensive to maintain. There were just three of them, and later just two, so parts had to be machined and modified. Despite great reliability, there were two major fires, one in 1975 and one in 1979. This did not alter the fact that passengers and crews loved them right to the end.

The US Turbos were run into the ground. CN maintenance guys were invited in 1980 to pick through them to buy parts before the trains were scrapped. They reported back that the US trains has been so poorly maintained that there was almost nothing they could use. Everything had been allowed to wear completely out.

:)Jason and Crew, thanks for the wonderful, no great Instruction Manual for this product . It is humorous, filled with pathos, and lots of SIFI references. Oh by the way my Yellow and Blue Via Rail train with add on cars is Drop Dead Beautiful and in closing I must add as have others I hope you have stocked a huge supply of extra support struts/rods. I'am sure Mike is looking down and very pleased.    Nate Goodman (Nato).   :)
