Back in the days of the "Pike sized passenger train" series in MR, I recall there being an NP train with a Pacific and a couple coaches, which would be a natural for that car. 

Also really like the IC cars.  Probably not particularly accurate to prototype, but does bring back memories. 

But will probably forgo both, with the bucks going into the "single window coach" fund.

I like those C&NW stock cars. Anyone know if they are prototypical or not. Once upon a time, I searched a bit for the same cars but in HO but found nothing on them.

As touched on by the MTL description, these cars were rebuilt from box cars in the 50's.  The prototype cars had steel 4-4 ends and a steel roof.  Also, the diagonal bracing is mirrored from the NYC prototype MTL car.  The paint is also off a bit as the green and yellow should divide about half way down the side of the car.

It depends on how prototypical you mean.  As I understand it, the MT car is modeled after a NYC car. (Despatch Shops being a subsidiary of the NYC).

dreadnought ends, and somewhat different in terms of the construction of the sides and placement of details-

But I am tempted to pick one up myself- it isn't an exact model, but I don't think MT is pretending that it is.  It looks good, and the CNW paint job stands out in a crowd of mineral brown cars.

  My weathered UP/ ex Rock Island 3-bay hopper is on the way to me from Model Train Stuff.  The Rock went out in 1980 but you can still see their faded blue patch paint hoppers today.  I saw three of them on Farm Rail in Cordell, Oklahoma last week.

With releasing a two car set on the CNW stock car, MTL missed an opportunity to do something very MTL-like.  In the 60's the CNW 'articulated' (permanently joined) pairs of cars with 'A' and "B" cars on the same road number.
