... The other thing is that the rods on the sides of the diaphragms are not attached at the top end to the car sides. They are free floating and most of them stand proud off the car body surface...

Everything is press-fit on these models, including the diaphragms.  You can pop them off and gently flex the rods to a sharper angle so that they tough the roof when the diaphragm is pressed back into place.

Thanks Bryan. Still, I would prefer a more positive connection (like a hole in the body and a post in the end of the rod to plug into the hole).  Kind of like what Kato does.  Just being silly here.  :D

I got mine last week and am very happy with these coaches. Summer camp train specials on the Maine Central now have more accurate equipment on my railroad.
