Railwire is back up!
« on: September 22, 2018, 06:01:51 PM »
You're seeing this because you're a member of Railwire.net and probably have been wondering why we've been down for the last day.  I'm happy to say that the issue with our hosting provider has been resolved and we're back online. Sorry for the inconvenience! Hope to see you soon.

@tom mann , how far did you have to go back on the restore? Bunch of missing comments that I recall from Thursday.

Never mind...

I actually think he contacted the hosting company and volunteered to drive out to Phoenix to handle the restore himself.

:tommann:, have you had any reports of posts "disappearing" as a result of the unpleasantness? My personal messages aren't there any more.

Jeff

PS - too bad you couldn't make MARPM. Ed was great....

How are posts lost? What happens behind the scenes? Why do these things happen? I am not in any way bothered and can really empathize when everything goes down! Perhaps a simple narrative would help us all understand the tremendous effort that goes on behind the scenes?

Clear your browser's cache and browsing history. I had to flush all of my browser's retained data before it would go to the right place. Only then did my (old) bookmark work.

Part of the problem is therailwire.net's IP has changed because of the "crash" and your browser is hanging on to the old one, which apparently now is that audio site.

Consider this hypothetical situation:

12:00am: Backup is made
12:01-12:15am: Peteski posts 10 times
12:16am: Software/Hardware issue forces a restore from last backup
12:17am: Forum is running with 12:00am backup; Peteski posts are gone

I just checked the IP....it wasn't the hosting company that I work for  :D

And, of course, none of us see this as a problem.
