mixing rust colored paint with NeoLube

 Has anyone tried this ? Thinking I could mix a bit of neolube with a water based rust color to get a rusty black ?

Isn't that like mixing oil and water, i.e., they don't mix?

No, because Neolube is alcohol-based and alcohol dilutes readily with water.

 It's for weathering rails , I may just use the NeoLube and then use some rust powder over it .  I could always mix flat black and rust paint , just want to try something different here.

Mike,

I did some experimentation on unitrack rails with unadulterated neolube and did not like the results. Too black for my taste, looking like it was just black paint.
