Yea! I have a feeling this release will render most of my Kato cans obsolete. (I really don't want to spend time detailing the Kato doors if I don't have too.)  The finish work on the JTC containers is the best in the business.

But where there are 53' containers, there must be 53' wells...  :ashat:

And DI is out of it, and FVM - who had some in development - got bit by the China factory closure.  Don't know about the Atlas singles, but most of what I see out there are the Maxi IVs...

Probably a missed opportunity, despite the fact that Atlas might have beaten them to getting the initial run of products to the marketplace, Micro-Trains Line should have gone ahead and produced their own version of the 53' singles.

As long as there is no duplication of the same prototype, variety and product releases from various sources is generally a good thing for all concerned.

Most, but not all...  I'm looking forward to the Atlas singles, and the FVM offerings!  I hope they both get back in the game quickly.

And with three major prototype manufacturers to choose from (Thrall, NSC, and Trinity), there should be a reasonable chance of avoiding duplication.

Not counting Gunderson, we have that already.

Yes! Please, more N scale non-Gunderson well cars! Heck, ANY! I don't know what got into MTL's head to make those 48' single well cars. Maybe they still think they're the only N scale rolling stock manufacturer on Earth.

DI tooling was acquired by FVM:

Fox Valley — The company has acquired most of the Deluxe tooling.  This includes all the containers, the container chassis, the 40' boxcar, the two woodchip hoppers, and some of the other models that escape me at the moment.  Some of the tooling was not recoverable and is lost – the Maxi-IV, the PS2 covered hopper, and something else I don't remember the 53’ trailer and it’s variants.

So - essentially what I said, the DI Maxi IVs are gone.  Glad I got a bunch while I could.

So - essentially what I said, the DI Maxi IVs are gone.  Glad I got a bunch while I could.

I bought two and was waiting forever for Dave Ferrari to mail me some fix kits. He kept putting it off for various reasons. Eventually I discovered my own fix: Swap out the stock 33" metal wheelsets on the end trucks for Fox Valley 33" wheelsets, which have a smaller flange. No more scraping problems.

In contrast, the DI TwinStacks seem to be everywhere. They're easily found on the used market, both online and in train shows. They probably made like a million of them :)

I believe my first N scale intermodal rolling stock was a Maxi III set. I sold it eventually because I couldn't separate it and it was taking up too much space whenever it wasn't in service. I believe Dave was intending to sell retrofit kits to allow for the Maxi III 5-unit sets to be easily separated for storage.

It's also unfortunate that the tooling for the DI 53' trailers were lost, but fortunately Trainworx's 53' trailers came out at the right time.

JaxTerminal, are you going to produce FEC containers? I have seen two schemes of the 53’ blue ones around now, hurricane logo and Florida East Coasts spell out like on the current GP loco scheme.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Hello Sundowner, The JTC new 53' is an 6-42-6 'wave' style corrugated side arrangement... The FEC, and many other schemes appear to be on 8-55-8 side arrangements ('rib' style corrugations); if/when JTC does this version it would have the correct front & doors. I will check (they are all over the highways) to see if the FEC 53 footers are Sigamas or CMIC or ??? We may have a definitive answer on whether JTC is producing this version, next month. We presently have several unannounced models in tooling.... so it would follow.  BR, Steve

Thanks Lou, that is some neat variety. I have a file on US military containers, suitable for our 20' model - many, esp the paint outs, in this video are new to me.
