Atlas shipping GP39-2!!

Good Morning,

According to their website, Atlas is shipping out the following products:

N VO-1000 Locomotive (Analog Only)
N GP39-2 Phase 1 Locomotive
N Precision Design 50’ Smooth Side Box Car (MKT)
N NE-6 Caboose

Now the wait begins to see when MB Klein or our other fine vendors have them available for sale.  Definitely need a DH/Guilford GP39-2 or 2  :D

Thanks,

Adam

Also, there are a few items that started their way to Atlas yesterday - MP15s among them.  I would imagine they are whatever was near completion at the factory closure, so hopefully this is a sign that situation is starting to straighten itself out.

Received my 2 Atlas Gold Reading GP39-2, another great running and sounding loco right out of the box.

I just got my first unit delivered from Hogtrainz, and I’m a fan of the quick delivery and their acceptance of PayPal as a payment method. MB Klein just posted their shipment this afternoon. I choose Walthers yesterday for my 2nd DH/Guilford unit, and it’s already shipping.  I would pickup the 2 RDG units, but those 2 units were repainted by 1980, and the DH 7600 units were on the BM by 1983.  I’m thankful for Atlas getting the GP39-2 developed, and I’m looking forward for future runs.

The "street price" seems kinda high to me. I guess I have to pay extra for the speaker I don't want, lucky me. :|

I am very glad to see these available, but I'd rather see the Silver versions use the old mechanism. The change definitely has me re-considering any purchases of these. I'm sure the new mech is fine, but obviously it is NOT cheaper. Plus, with the change, I am unsure of parts interchangabilty, and I have been known to tinker from time to time...

But....Ok, maybe just one ;)

That will give you the opportunity to closely examine the new mechanism and see how interchangeable it is with the vintage chassis.  :)

I don't believe the speaker is the reason for the slight increase in price, I expected them to cost a little more.  New frame, spacers, clips, decoder spacer, motor and speaker contacts all had to be designed and tooling made. It looks like all that is the same IMO is the trucks, worms, and drive shafts. I own 6 of the new Atlas Gold locos and really like them, I'm sure I will be purchasing a few more down the road.

Picked up a silver one from MB Klein yesterday; ATSF 3609. It’s currently in service on an Oregon shortline so the plan is to patch it up like the units on that road still wearing the Warbonnet. Down the road I might go the sound route so it’s nice to have the speaker in there for that

OK, not just a speaker, but a whole bunch of stuff that I really don't want :|

If I wanted a sound equipped unit, I'd just buy one. Personally, it's the bass frequencies I enjoy about trains, and N scale diesels (and other larger scales) just don't cut it for me. In general, I find the sounds from scale locos quite annoying.

A street price increase of 14$(at MBK, compared to recent release GP38-2s) is a pretty big jump up, considering I'm not getting any improvements over the old mech...In fact, the wires may prove to be worse, maybe not...

Actually, I don't think I'm going to buy one now. If shells become available, then maybe one will find its way to me..But I don't need or want the things they want us to pay extra for..If they had kept the price increase reasonable, then I might have. Atlas, being the elephant in the room, can do as they please, and I'm sure folks will gobble up what they produce..Honestly, the current state of Atlas and N scale has me considering a switch back to HO :scared:

Not sure if I understand it. What exactly do you mean but the "current state of Atlas and N scale"?
If you expect deep bass sound, H0 doesn't really have that either. Neither does 0 scale.  Personally I thing we have the best of times fo N scale. Better than anything in the past.  I mean we now have more products available now than ever before, and generally the best running models ever.  Sure, there are more products in H0 (there probably always will be), but these are still the best of times in N.  I might gripe about certain designs, quality, or fidelity of some new models, but I also realize that N scalers are very lucky with what we have.
