MT made that same 37000 series car in PC, years ago.  I have one.

Removing roofwalks from MT boxcars isn't that hard.  Pry or cut the walk off, plug the holes, file and sand the plugs to match the roof, and paint/weather the roof.  I usually remove the entire mounting pin, drill the hole 5/64 inch, and use Evergreen 0.080 round rod to plug the hole.

One should shorten the A end ladders, but I have seen pictures of cars where the roofwalk was removed, but none of the ladders were shortened.  Any ladders that reach the roof should have a "No Roofwalk" stencil added.  Microscale data sets have those.  There should also be a grabiron on the roof at each corner with a tall ladder, similar to the one on the roofwalk, but most people won't miss those.

There are, however, these in the CBQ 47000 series preceeding:

Nothing matches those either.  :)

Regarding using an MTL car for a foob PC, just use the new modernized P-S double-door bodystyle. But it’s not a route I would travel because of the vertical stretch factor. Also not certain if PRR had any P-S 50’ double-door cars. NH had 15 but they I don’t know if any of them were repainted green. There is an accurate model for the NH prototype, which is the Athearn double-door model. I will try to discover if any of the 15 cars were repainted.

I don't think the PRR had PS1s either. The NYC affiliate Peoria & Eastern had them though, with single 10' 6 panel Superior doors. Not sure if/when they made it into PC paint though.

The Micro-Trains database doesn't have a listing for a 37000-series car in PC.
Are you sure it wasn't a 34000-series car, such as this one?

This car also has the "worms" and the roadnumber/dimensional data at the opposite ends of the car.
Again, it comes down to how much of a "foob" the OP is willing to tolerate.

Which MTL car would have ends closer in style to the prototype PC car, an older 34000/37000-series car or a newer 182000-series car?

Presumably the 182000 series also has a low brake wheel.  That with the short ladders probably makes it the better car to start with.

Technically, none of them are good choices, since it appears that the ex-NH cars are the only 50’ PS1 double doors that PC inherited and it’s uncertain any of them wore green paint (since they weren’t in the best shape at the time of acquisition) and they didn’t have equal-width doors.

Also, that MTL foob has a lot# 161-B notation, which means the prototype was DSI-built.

PRR only had a small order of 40' PS-1's

Even if you ignore the vertical stretch factor on the modernized double door car, the ends with the low handbrakes and ladders and low ladders on both sides don't match the sides with grabs on the left, no gussets by the door opening, and a lowered ladder on the right.

I am impressed with the amount of knowledge and resources among our members here, and hte eagerness to share, which is what makes our forum so great.

I found the Milwaukee Road boxcar online and have ordered it;I am really pleased to get that given the close relationship between the BCR and Milwaukee Road.

I also found the suggested Athearn CB&Q boxcar in my local hobby shop - not an exact match but a rather nice model.  So I am making progress.

Are you looking.to match the NSL car in the picture or buy a more accurate model of a different NSL car?

The Exactrail model is a better match for.the car in the photo that you provided.   The NARC PS 5077 will be accurate for NSL, but it's a totally different car:

Well matching the car in the picture would be great, but I am seeing structural differences from all available models.  My LHS didn't have any Exactrail cars for me to check out, and I cannot find one available online.  Pictures suggest it is close except for he bottom side sill.

Thanks to all again for your participation!

As I suspected, the NH PS1 double doors didn't get repainted.  But they did survive well into the PC era with roofwalks intact.

Intermountain:

While InterMountain never has released their model in PC, they do have a run coming that will include the undec kit which should include parts to build any configuration.  Item# 60699.

Point353:  Yep, it was the 34000.  I missed that the 37000 already had the roofwalk removed.
