Also using 10.10.5 for the same reasons as C855B and current on security.  I do notice that the padlock at the top of the pages in TRW (when I use Firefox) has a warning that some of the page is not secure, so that may be the issue with Safari deciding the connection as a whole may not be secure and bailing on me.

With respect to the Chrome line being very high, don't forget about Chromebooks which have apparently invaded the school market as they are supposed to require little or no admin overhead.  That could be distorting the figures?

I browse with my iPad and just checked Safari on my iMac and don't have any issues.

When you see the broken padlock, it means that images on this site are accessed through http and not https.  This is a result of users using hosting sources that don't support https.  The proxy addressed this, by reading in the image and storing it locally so it could be accessed through https (but as you recall there were issues with it).

If you mean inferior to Chrome (the green line), then sure, but the second most globally used browser on the web - I wouldn't call "inferior".

really? It has issues with java scripts and has never been a good browser. Safari is the Budweiser of browsers...Bud will get you drunk, but it still tastes worse than the rest...IE is Miller, tastes better than Budweiser, but still is crappy.

What OS on your iMac? I think that is where Dave suggested we look. The slightly older OSX that Jon and I run might be lagging in security updates. 10.10.x is not that old - <3 years.

Also having Safari issues here on my Macbook with 10.10.5 (Safari 10.1.2) and my dad is having the same issue on his iMac.

Works ok on my iphone.

Firefox seems ok, but even then the broken padlock appeared before.

"Broken padlock" is by no means a bad thing. It's just an indication there is non-encrypted content on a web page accessed using "https://", which would otherwise be a secured page.

For instance, my photos linked here are on a non-encrypted server. You will get the broken padlock. Since my server is read-only and you are sending nothing to me, the unsecure content warning means nothing.

No but it had the same comment about an unsecure connection, like safari does....

Unsecured connections are nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, with heightening security concerns, browsers are making unsecured connections sound potentially dangerous. All it means is there's no encryption, so if the site presents any forms to submit, you shouldn't enter any personal information of a sensitive nature (SS #, etc.). Otherwise, there's nothing to be concerned about.

I had no idea that Chrome had become such a force majeur. That is scary, given Google's well-earned rep for snoopware. Is it because of Android's dominance in the worldwide phone market? That Safari is second is completely explainable by iPhones and iPads.

I'd like to see that graph rejiggered, eliminating phones and tablets.
For desktops, Chrome is still way out in front - but it's a close race for second place between Safari, IE and Firefox.

Thanks. Surprised that IE is still that much of a player.

IE actually has a great advantage to other browsers when diagnosing issues with a website. It allows you to see where broken images are...other than that, it is a real poor browser that has issues parsing JavaScript

Jon

Should have said current on updates.  Turns out Yosemite (10.10.5) had not been updated for over a year  :o .  As a result Safari (built into Yosemite) was also apparently not updating.  Just installed High Sierra (10.13.6) which carries the latest Safari (11.1.2) and I'm back to getting in here without going to Firefox.

The bad part of this is that the "Domestic Overlord's" machine (early 2009 iMac) will not upgrade from Yosemite, so I'll have to migrate her to Firefox and suffer the endless complaints about change

This is being written on an early 2009 iMac. These models can be upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.6 in my case), but no further. And presuming you are reading this, TRW works fine on it.
