I like the bolt-in cab... very clever!

What gauge wire did you end up using for the new pick-ups?

One of the super flexible wires seen here:

https://www.ngineering.com/accessories.htm

I’ll check which one.

Edit: #32. Not for any specific reason. I happened to find some in my wiring box. The wires Jeff includes in the kit performed just fine. I just destroyed them. Although the smaller ones were easier to route in the manner that I chose to.

I’ve been making an effort to finish languishing projects so I pulled this one off the shelf. The green loco will wait until I’m brave enough to mega-weather it. But the red one can be moved along.

In a previous photo it’s easy to see the some of the decals had become chipped from all of the handling during decoder installation. I relaid new decals right over top of the old ones. The first layer wasn’t very opaque so doing this really improved the white and to me it looks much better.

The loco got a coat of Future, a product I am experimenting with right now in hopes of creating a more durable finish. Following that was a coat of Dullcoat.

Thanks guys. I’m looking forward to finishing at least one of them soon. 503 is close now. I did some windows today. The next step is the get the body on the chassis and start adding hand rails.

These kits look really great.
I can’t wait to start on a pair of CNR Spadina S13s from two that I’ve ordered.

Well I pretty much finished 503 tonight. It needs couplers and weathering. (And a step replaced that broke off two years ago, which I can’t find right now... and will show up as soon as I build and paint one).

The final steps were to add windshield wipers to the cab and install the side railings. After that I soldered the cab light wires to the decoder.

Then the front railings/pilot were glued in place.

Then the cab was installed. I had built it to take four screws but it only took one to make it settle into place. I still added a second on the opposite side for strength.

Lastly was the rear handrails/pilot.

Here’s the broken step. The type of resin used for this kit is REALLY brittle. When you separate parts from the sprue little shards break away. I believe he’s using a new stronger product now.

And that’s that. Here’s where it’s at now.

Hmm, I see it needs number board decals too.

Once it’s weathered and the filters have a nice dark colour I’ll be very please with it. This is my first completed Briggs loco kit and I have several more other types to do. These are nice kits. Not easy but without it we would t have these niche locos.

Outstanding Craig!  Very inspiring... now I want to build mine.

I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on how it runs once you get a chance to give it a go.

Thanks everyone.

Philippe, it runs quite well. I had just the chassis going on my test loop yesterday and it runs just as well as a LL SW. it’s a bit noisy and would benefit from the upgrade to a metal Atlas worm gear, but I’ve decided not to over complicate my projects. I have soooo many that aren’t getting finished because I’m trying to reach a level that isn’t practical with the amount of time I have. I’m really enjoying finishing things and to do that I have to be ok with good enough.

I’m really looking forward to finishing the other one once I have the courage to whether it.
