Normally we see tracks being removed from yards. Not completely new yards being built.

UP has been building yard capacity for several years in out-of-the-way locations. F'rinstance, we're in the middle of nowhere at the far eastern reach of UP's system, and have an new "regional intermodal" facility under construction 15 miles away. Go figure.

"1300 ... cars per day" "...single largest capital investment in the company's 156-year history."

There's some investor-relations puffery at play here. That's a small yard as these go and the architectural overview indicates a flat yard, so there must be techno-magic tricks to claim that capacity. As far as the cost, that has to be not adjusted for inflation in the comparison... or the real estate cost was through the roof. Probably both. We had to miss the shareholder's meeting last month, which is likely what that vid was prepared for.

Plus, they do the scenery first and then lay the track.

How are they going to mount the turnout motors under the roadbed? The backdrop ain't so grand either.   :D

I think they added the ground foam and static grass too early.

Those roads look very realistic, they should do a write up.

Nah!  That's clearly flextrack and prefab turnouts at 0:26 in the video.   :D

Maybe it is really a yard to store lack of need equipment that would normally be used for Can-Am commerce .

They're not.  The motors go on top, alongside the turnouts, just like trainset turnouts.

"Designed and built for DCC"

With remote control locomotives common in yards and industries today, that might not be as far-fetched as it sounds.  I could see someone using wireless DCC in an industrial setting.
