Yes, we didn't have palm trees in eastern Washington.
There was a man in Kennewick, across the river from us, who had a producing orange tree. He planted it on the southwest side of his house, to catch the maximum sun, right next to the dryer vent. In the winter he'd put a plastic sheet over the tree, so that heat from the dryer, and leakage from the house, kept the tree from freezing. I don't know how productive it was, but the local paper mentioned it at least once, and said he did get ripe oranges from it.
