My unnamed HOn3 layout build
« on: May 15, 2018, 08:27:14 PM »

Well my HOn3 layout build is underway at last and it seems like Dave and I have similar ideas.
I have been in N Scale since 1969 and since selling our home of 37 years two years ago my beloved SFRSD had to go also.
What a good time to start something new, so after moving into a smaller home with an attached garage and collecting as much Blackstone stuff as possible the layout construction has begun.
As I have been using L Girder for years I am staying with this method for this build.

Hopefully some more progress this afternoon.

Good friend John came over yesterday arvo and we got stuck into the RR.
I had previously cut all the cross pieces and risers to size so it was a matter of getting them all screwed in place.
Very happy with the afternoons effort.

Next stage it to set up the L Girder and sub-road bed across the top of my work bench.

This is the state of play as of Friday last week.
Lots more done to get the sub road bed in place.

Spent some time yesterday working out the position for the Banta roundhouse, turntable and track arrangement in the first yard.

Great progress since my last post.
Lots more sub-roadbed installed over the work bench and along the R/H wall.
Track locations have been marked out on the already completed roadbed waiting for the cork that I have cut into strips.
two shelves have been installed above the workbench to locate my Dremel charger and one to hold my new NCE DCC system.

Work on the sub-roadbed for the Y has started and should be completed my the middle of next week.

I love due to sharp radius curves, the shelf sections for this kind of layout permits lots of great modeling.

Today marks a milestone with almost all of the sub road bed being completed.
All that needs to be done is construction of the two duck-unders and we are away.
Lots done yesterday and today to get this far and lots of help from a few good friends.
Here are a few images of how it looks as of today. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ] [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
Barry assembled the KittHills Models Durango T/Table for me in just 3 days.

And today it was 2 degrees C so definitely stayed inside working on the mine.

Used a .05 pen to do the nail holes as random as I could.
I know that they are oversize but what the heck.

Finished the mine today and now ready to tackle the next build.
We will be heading North, driving almost 2000K week after next so no work on the RR until we return.
Here are a few rough pics.

Oh and as I will not be following a prototype area I have finally come up with a name for the layout.
It will be the D&RG Monarch Branch. Towns will be Gunnison, Cimmeron and the end of the layout where the wye is Ponca Junction. All taken from the Narrow Gauge Circle.
Glad that's sorted.
