ESU 73100 board question
« on: May 03, 2018, 10:56:28 PM »

I am installing a 73100 board into my FVM GEVO unit. The decoder comes with two LED's to put onto the board. The instructions show them being mounted to the pads on the bottom of the decoder with no mention of adding a resistor. Of course, I do not want to use those LED's but rather want to install smd Pico (1mm) led's instead. Is it safe to assume that I can just wire these 3 volt LED's without a resistor? ? ?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hi
Take a look as this thread.

The short answer is no additional resistors needed for the front and rear lights but do check that you get the led polarity correct when you connect up to the pads.  Additional resistors would be needed for the aux pads though.
Peteski has done a wonderful write up on this and the sister decoder 73199.  You may need to scroll down a bit to the pad descriptions. Pete has even marked up the decoder picture with the A for anode or positive pads and C for cathode for the negative pads too.
