Kato Announces Next Passenger Train

Not to get overly picky, but this is only true starting in 1954. Prior to that, the 20th Century sleeper went to LA on the Chief (as did the NYC and DC sleepers).

           :|KATO Union Pacific E9 diesel. UP's first smaller batch of E9's had two headlights and no E9 identifier plaque on the cab sides. My model is an E9 look at the Farr Air Side Grills. By the time the roof top beacon was added the to the cab top, the horns should have really been relocated farther back on the carbody. I did not take the time to add the extra nose grabs on one side of the nose. The snow shields were metal cast items from the old Hobbies Emporium. Nate Goodman (Nato).

                  I considered getting one, but I wasn't a big Closet B & O Fanzee as I' am now, I have two Bachmann EM 1's . Yes this should be KATO's next new North American Train, not a rerun COLA, CZ or yellow and grey Olympian Hi.                                 Nate Goodman (Nato).

Back when these brass models were offered I bought the 1938 Dreyfus Hudson, but couldn't afford the 20th Century Ltd. car set. Still hoping that Kato will do those.

I would think either the Rock Island train or the TCL are best bets for the completely newly-tooled KATO passenger train. Those are the ones KATO had polls on and seemed inclined to do. Only question being, which 20th Century Limited?

Even though I'm an SPF, I'd buy a 20th Century Ltd with a Dreyfus Hudson in a heartbeat. 
There's just something about that loco.

Yeah that's where I get confused as the E9's on the same page are listed are 1960+. So either Kato is offering mismatched motive power or they are gonna update the appearance of the train to 1960 (mainly the trucks on the pass cars would be silver instead of gray I guess).

My bet is on the mismatch, but I guess we'll see.

I would definitely be in line for both, as long as the Century has the Dreyfuss Hudson.

If Kato starts turning out Hudsons, I predict that life is going to get more expensive for most of us.

                    I can see after looking at the two photos of the work I did many years ago to that first generation Kato E unit that it just calls out for windshield wipers. No windshield wipers "Wa-a-a-a-a!" Nate Goodman (Nato).

If Kato was trying to be somewhat economical with development costs, they might choose both the 1940 edition of the 20th Century Ltd. and the post-1941 streamlined Lark. Both trains used 4-4-2, 10-5 and 13 double bedroom type sleepers. Also, for the Lark, the GS-4 loco and the triple-unit kitchen/diner/coffee shop car from the Daylight train could be recycled.

Going by their past record with full passenger train sets, Kato does not worry much about being economical.  That is what makes heir sets quite desirable. They can be as good as brass sets (they also roll so much better, and are easy to illuminate).
