While browsing my downloaded P bucket files, I found a photo Ebit sent of how he dealt with the flimsy contacts on the LL(now WKW) SW loco.

This works !  I did it years ago on a LL SW and it really made for a dependable loco.

What did you use for the pick ups, and how did you fashion it?
 Thanks,
 Joe D

Thank you Ebit, where ever you are.

Thank you Ebit, where ever you are.

I used thin strips of phosphor-bronze cut from a sheet.  It was thin enough that I was able to cut it to shape quite easily with a pair of utility scissors. What you need is actually rather small so you can make many strips from a single sheet of material.  I recall I made several before I got the shape "perfect".

If somebody is having trouble finding .005" phosphor bronze sheet to cut pickups from send me a PM.  Unless there was a stampede, a self addressed stamped envelope is probably all that would be needed. 8)

For those who requested some material, it's on its way. :)  Standard mail envelope.

I wish I could've found the drawing Ebit provided to me, to use as a template for cutting the contact strips.

For arriving at the shape you could probably use .010" styrene.  Cut until you get the shape you want.  And then, if it wouldn't mess with the fit otherwise it might be easier to get the PB strip to fit and then bend and solder the chassis engaging tab to the strip.  It would save cutting into a 90 degree notch from both ends which has a way of getting delicate flats all out of shape. :)
